Atlus would like to release tactical role-playing game Unicorn Overlord on PC, however its agreement with developer Vanillaware doesn’t allow it.
Speaking during an interview, Atlus Producer Akiyasu Yamamoto was asked whether there is any particular reason the publisher chose not to aim for the release of a PC version of Unicorn Overlord at launch, and whether there have been any discussion about a PC port later on.
Yamamoto responded by stating that, as a publisher, Atlus would like to deliver Unicorn Overlord to PC users alongside Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S players, but per its agreement with Vanillaware, it is only releasing the game on console. In other words, he clarified that there are currently no plans to port it to PC.
Unicorn Overlord is a 2024 tactical role-playing game developed by Vanillaware and published by Atlus in Japan, and Sega worldwide. The game is set on the continent of Fevrith during a time of war. Players follow exiled prince Alain as he gathers allies to reclaim his kingdom from the Zenoiran Empire, led by General Valmore. Gameplay involves large-scale battles in real-time, with players controlling Alain and his army units.
Players assume the role of exiled prince Alain, leading the Liberation Army across the fantasy realm of Fevrith. They guide Alain through an overworld, where they will visit towns, seek blacksmiths and merchants to equip their army, and engaging in story or optional battles. Enemies represented by sprites roam the overworld in areas not controlled by Alain or his allies. All characters, locations, and sprites are presented using 2D art. The number of units deployable in combat sections depends on a resource called Valor, earned by completing battles. The overworld allows for free exploration, enabling players to tackle events in different orders. Towns also offer side quests that require players to gather materials for improving Alain’s relationships with other characters.
