The Kingdom Hearts series is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch, but not in the way that many had hoped.
Square Enix has revealed a Kingdom Hearts collection for the Nintendo Switch, with nearly every game launching as a Cloud streaming solution. Many fans were unhappy since there was no native port for these games.
We uncover some of the possible reasons why these titles couldn’t be moved to the Nintendo Switch in a video by Modern Vintage Gamer, who has expertise in designing and porting games on multiple platforms. It all comes down to two things: time and resources.
Square Enix could have assessed the time it would take to transfer these titles and realized that it would take at least two years to get them operating. This is true if we’re talking about the PS4 port because porting a PS3 game would be more difficult than porting a PS4 game, which is built on the x86 architecture. Another cause might be connected to logistics, such as file size. The file size on the PS4 surpasses 50 GB, thus bringing such a large-sized game to the Switch would need shipping on a 64 GB cart, which would raise the publishing expenses.
Essentially, Square Enix chose the most cost-effective and time-efficient approach here. Nintendo is also aware that more Switch Cloud streaming ports may be introduced in the future, so they have incorporated support for native ethernet connections in the Nintendo Switch OLED Dock.

If they can’t put it all in one cartridge why can’t they just put each individual game in to their own individual cartridges. I wouldn’t mind buying a case filled with ten or so cartridges if they couldn’t get it all into one.
