Microsoft and Mojang Studios’ popular sandbox game, Minecraft, is set to receive a native PS5 version.
Multiple sources have confirmed that title IDs for a PS5 version of Minecraft have recently been published on the PlayStation Network back-end, implying that a native port for the console will soon be available. Among the aforementioned sources is Twitter/X user PlayStation Game Size, who has correctly leaked similar back-end information from the PlayStation Store in the past.
Minecraft did not receive a native PS5 version back when the console launched in the year 2020, as Microsoft claimed that it did not receive a development kit from Sony. Therefore, the game received a native Xbox Series X|S port at the time, while PS5 users continued to play the PS4 version running via backwards compatibility.
Now that Mojang Studios ha received development kits for the PS5 version of Minecraft Dungeons, it looks like the original Minecaft is also getting the same treatment. While it isn’t officially stated that the port will be free for existing owners of the PS4 version, that will undoubtedly be the case as it was on Xbox consoles.
In terms of the upgrades one can expect, the PS5 port should be in line with the Xbox Series X version of Minecraft, with support for ray tracing and a 120 Hz mode. Load times may be a bit quicker on PS5 compared to the current-gen Xbox consoles, though that remains to be tested.
Previously, Mojang had released update version 1.19.70 for Minecraft on Nintendo Switch, which included a plethora of changes and additions. This included improvements to vanilla parity as well as bug fixes and experimental features. One of the standout features of the update was the addition of player emotes. This system in Bedrock Edition added an emote wheel with four slots, hotkeys for quick emoting, and easier sorting of emotes. Additionally, newly created character came with four default emotes automatically applied.
