A new dock is included with the Nintendo Switch OLED. According to a recent teardown video, this dock can produce 4K at 60 frames per second.
There are currently no known games that can output at this resolution and frame rate, however, this may change since rumours of a Nintendo Switch 4K revision have been circulating for quite some time. While Nintendo has refuted the reports, as the saying goes, where there is smoke, there is fire.
The 4K/60 FPS output of the Nintendo Switch OLED dock is claimed by YouTube NintendoPrime via NintendoLife. According to this user, the new OLED dock can be operated at 4K/60 FPS. This is due to the new dock’s compatibility for HDMI 2.0, as opposed to the previous dock’s support for HDMI 1.4.
This isn’t the only evidence pointing to 4K support in the future. The cable included with the new dock looks to be future-proof as well since it can output at 4K resolution. It is conceivable that Nintendo intends to support this resolution in future revisions of the Nintendo Switch, but for the time being, they are simply rumours. We’ll have to wait until next year for the reported release of the Nintendo Switch 4K.
