The next entry in the Spyro the Dragon series, Spyro 4, is currently in active development at Toys For Bob, based on the latest rumor.
YouTuber Canadian Guy Eh, a prominent Spyro and Crash Bandicoot content creator, has claimed to have leaned that Spyro 4 is currently under development at developer Toys For Bob. In his video, he mentioned that he had many private talks with people in the industry over the last few months, and always heard mention of a 4th entry in the Spyro series. Recently, on March 20, 2024, he flew to Boston for PAX East and had conversations with a lot of developers, some of whom mentioned hearing stuff about Spyro 4.
One of the individuals the content creator spoke to at PAX East mentioned hearing things about Spyro 4 that matched with what he had heard before. A few days ago, Windows Central’s Jez Corden published an article in which he mentioned that Toys For Bob has worked out a deal with Microsoft to work on its first new independent game. It is claimed that Head of Microsoft Studios Matt Booty stated that “it will be similar to games Toys for Bob has made in the past.”
After Corden’s story was published, the YouTuber once again spoke to the people he met at PAX East, and one of them confirmed to him that Spyro 4 is in active development as of January, 2024.
As always, we urge our readers to take such rumors and speculation with a grain of salt until there is confirmation via official channels. That said, there are multiple sources hinting towards the possibility of Spyro 4 being in development. As such, the information does appear to be plausible.
Toys For Bob previously worked on the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, a compilation released in November 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One, followed by versions for Nintendo Switch and Windows in September 2019.
