Koei Tecmo is aiming for sales of 5 million copies of the upcoming Sony Interactive Entertainment published and Team Ninja developed PS5 exclusive action role-playing game, Rise of the Ronin.
On its corporate website, Koei Tecmo has shared its priority goals for Fiscal Year 2024, in which it is stated that the company expects sales of Rise of the Ronin to reach 5 million copies. The PS5 exclusive is developed by its Team Ninja division and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Sales of 5 million copies of Rise of the Ronin is a rather ambitious goal, given that it is a brand new IP set for release on a single platform. Koei Tecmo has likely factored an eventual PC release into its sales goal target for the game. Given the partnership between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Koei Tecmo, Rise of the Ronin is likely to remain a console exclusive on PS5, meaning that it may not see the light of day on Xbox.
In terms of its future growth strategy, Koei Tecmo plans on achieving sales of 2 million or more for its titles each fiscal term. It also plans on releasing a smartphone game and attaining monthly sales of 2 billion yen. Furthermore, it plans on focusing on its established franchises, such as Nioh, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and the globalization of franchises like Atelier and its Musou games. The company intends to cultivate and develop its IPs and venture into growing genres, such as Battle Royale.
Final pre-launch previews for Rise of the Ronin are have been shared by various media outlets. Among them is YouTuber Skill Up, who shared that the game has issues in maintaining its target frame rate of 60 fps while running in Performance mode, often dropping below 50 fps. Additionally, it was mentioned that cutscenes exhibit some frame pacing issues. However, the game is scheduled to receive a patch that is expected to improve performance prior to its launch on March 22, 2024.
