Nintendo Switch hasn’t received a price increase compared to the PS5 or Xbox Series, but Nintendo is considering it depending on the market situation.
In an investors’ QA that was published in English today, it was revealed that Nintendo is keeping an eye on the weaker yen and will consider the price of their console going forward.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa was asked about this during the QA session and gave the following reply.
Currently, there are no plans to raise the price of our hardware. However, the yen has
depreciated at an unexpected level for a long duration, so we will carefully consider as we
monitor the situation going forward. It is true that for Japan in particular, hardware profitability
has decreased due to the prolonged depreciation of the yen.
How we view the effects of inflation and other factors remains unchanged. While we believe
there is currently no major impact, we will continue to monitor various factors of our product
sales.
Sony had recently increased the price of their console from $499 to $549 in select markets. They are also going to launch their next-generation headset, PSVR2, for $549. Microsoft hasn’t mentioned any price increase but they have stated that they lose at least $100 to $200 on each Xbox Series console.
