Nintendo’s latest system update, version 16.0.1 for the Nintendo Switch, has been released, and while the patch notes only mention system stability improvements, there are some hidden changes that have been made to enhance the system’s functionality.
One of the changes that have been made in the reorganization of the bad words list, which should minimize the number of erroneous blocks, and certain words have been added or removed in various languages. Another change that has been made is to the BCAT system module, but specific details about this change have not been disclosed. Based on reports, it seems that the change was a bug fix, as no significant modifications were detected.
In addition to the system update, version 1.1.1 of NSO Game Boy has also been released, with a minor tweak to the description for Kirby’s Dream Land 2. The original text, which described the characters Rick the Hamster, Kine the Fish, and Coo the Owl, was changed to “Rick, Kine and Coo, who look like a hamster, a fish, and an owl, respectively”.
It is not uncommon for Nintendo to release stability updates for the Nintendo Switch that don’t appear to add anything meaningful to the game but come with some hidden changes under the hood. The last major update for the system was released on February 20. This latest update contains a feature that replaces any user nickname that cannot be used with “???” which can then be updated from the profile settings. This is designed to prevent inappropriate or offensive usernames from being displayed in online gaming environments.
